You can do a thousand of good deeds to people and they will not appreciate you, and will likely forget you. They will not be able to benefit you except if Allah wills. But do one small good deed for Allah, and He will appreciate and Award you abundantly. He will multiply your good deeds, and will wipe out your bad deeds. He will forgive you and make a place in paradise for you. Who do you really try to please; Allah or His creation?
Remember what Allah said in the Glorious Qur'an: “Everything will perish, save His Face.” (The Qur'an 28:88)
From the interpretation of Ibn Kathīr: And God, the Most High's statement that “Everything will perish save His Face” shows that He is the Eternal, the Everlasting, the Ever-Living and the Self-Existent, who does not die while all of creation will die. As God, the Most High said “Everything on this earth will perish, but forever will abide the Face of your Lord, full of Might and Glory”, and ‘Face’ denotes the Being (of Allāh).
Mujāhid and Al-Thawrī said regarding His statement “Everything will perish save His Face” that everything will perish except the acts that are done for seeking His pleasure.
Every being is bound to perish and is impermanent - except for His Being, Most High and Holy. For He is the First and the Last, and He was before and is after everything else.
Remember to be kind to people, to help and guide them, show them the true path, but never forget what your real purpose in life is. To worship and serve your lord most high. To do good deeds seeking His pleasure and forgiveness. [F.D]
